The Cotswolds
Spanning Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire in a beautiful part of England. It has green countryside scattered with honey coloured Cotswold stone villages with many traditional country pubs.
Cotswold Water Park
The Cotswold Waterpark is made up of almost 150 lakes and covers an area of 40 square miles. Nearly all of the lakes are man-made through the extraction of gravel and have either been left , which has resulted in some magnificent wildlife habitats, or managed for a rapid recovery and the offering a variety of leisure activities. These include a range of watersports from sailing to waterskiing, riding, fishing (fly-fishing and course fishing), golf and some beautiful walks:
Golf: There are a number of golf clubs in the area ranging from casual pay and play at South Cerney Golf Club, just five minute's drive away to the Wrag Barn Golf Club with its par 72, 18 hole course.
Head4Heights Aerial Adventure Centre provides an opportunity for the more daring to try out high wire activities.
Watersports (seasonal): Waterskiing is available at The Watermark Club, Spring Lake - alternatively you can sit in the cafe and watch other people make a fool of themselves. Other watersports (sailing, windsurfing, kayaking) are available at Waterland Outdoor Pursuits, Lake 32.
Cycle and boat hire from Go by Cycle near Keynes Country Park available Easter to October.
Out and About
The Cotswolds boasts lovely market towns including Cirencester, (just 4 miles away) with Corintheum Museum; Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the- Water with model village and railway; Burford and Chipping Camden. Swindon (14 miles away) has a range of high street shops and the McArthur Glenn Designer Outlet shopping. Cheltenham (25 miles away) is famous for its races which happen all year round.
The Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford is open all year and has a wide range of animals from rhinos to wolves. It has a cafe and ride-on train if you need to shelter from the weather. Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust is 27 miles away. The Cotswold Farm Park near Cheltenham has a wide range of rare breeds of British farm animals which can be petted whilst older children can make use of the play barn, tractor school and adventure playground.
