January is close down at Lower Mill - a requirement by Cotswold District Council to ensure that the homes are truly second homes and also, far more importantly, to protect the overwintering birds at Somerford Lagoon which overlooks a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
For us at Goose Nest House, it is the time of year to ensure that the house stays in top condition - cleaning the carpets, decking, painting the walls, sweeping the chimney and servicing the boiler. We carry out a full inventory several times a year and ensure that we replace anything that has gone walkabout over the year.
It also gives us time to check that the many toys and board games are still in good condition though we do tend to get a bit distracted and end up playing them!
