For Anglers amongst you, Goose Nest House provides a great luxury base to stay and try out the different fishing available both on the Estate and in the Cotswold Water Park.
On the Estate are several good quality fishing lakes with carp, pike, tench and other fresh water fish for both the novice and experienced angler. The Estate has a dedicated Fisheries Manager who can give you advice on the best spots and can also offer accompanied day and night fishing - the fish you catch will be dependent on the season.
Flagham Fen is regularly stocked with Rainbow Trout which can be caught with a variety of baits and methods including fly, worm or maggot.
If it is a challenge you like, then Mill Lake has great coarse fishing with Carp over 30 pounds and Tench up to 10 pounds in weight.
Somerford Lagoon, the largest lake and the one overlooked by Goose Nest, has plenty of Pike up to 30 pounds and some large Perch growing to over 4 pounds in weight.
As part of a special fishing package, we can arrange an accompanied day's fishing or a day and night fishing excursion with the Fisheries Manager. If two people want to spend two days and a night fishing for Carp or Tench on Mill Lake, for a charge of £275 this would include:
- One or two Fishing camps.
- Two fishing rods, reels and rigs per person
- Cooking equipment (stoves, pots and pans, kettle, mugs etc).
- All other equipment required for the duration.
The only things that guests need to bring along is their own pillow and sleeping bag and suitable clothes (including a rain coat - you never know!).
The wider Cotswold Water Park offers other opportunities for fishing. The Watermark Fisheries (tel 01285 862 680) has a number of different lakes including:
Trout Lake (5.5 acre pool) which accommodates 14 anglers and is home to Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout ranging from 2 - 20 lbs. A day fishing tariff is about £45 for 6 fish limit down to £15 for 1 fish limit (with concessions for junior and OAP).
Bradley's Fishery (Lake 16, 130 acres) is for the more experienced angler with Carp, Pike, Tench, Roach and Rudd. Well-known for the large carp and aiming for 400lb mark!
Pike Lake (Lake 6) is 40 acres and, as rhe name suggests, offers Pike as well as Tench, Carp, Perch and Roach.
Ashton-Keynes Angling Club provides quality course fishing on 8 lakes (some are seasonal). A range of fishing is available with Carp, Pike, Tench, Bream, Perch, Roach, Rudd and Chub.
